Mozy Turns To Hard Drives For Uploads

Mozy, the online data backup service now owned by EMC, which still has operations in Pleasant Grove, Utah, said last week that it has launched a new service which will allow users to copy their data to a hard drive, and express it to Mozy for faster loading. The service--Mozy Data Shuttle--comes due to the difficulty of backing up large data sets over limited Internet bandwidth. Mozy said it will supply the hard drives, delivering it to users overnight; the firm's MozyPro client software will then transfer data to the device, which can be returned to Mozy for loading on its service. Mozy said the service allows the transfer of datasets ranging from 100GB to 8TB, and starts at $275 for 1.8TB of data.
