Montana Senator Renews Call for .XXX

Max Baucus, a Democractic Senator from Montana, along with Mark Pryor of Arkansas, have introduced a new bill that looks to revive the idea of an Internet zone for adult businesses. The bill, the "Cyber Safety for Kids Act of 2006" looks to require the U.S. Department of Commerce to work with the Internet Corporatio for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to oversee development a domain name system for material that is judged harmful to minors. The idea for a .xxx domain was approved last summer, but postponed in December due to controversy around the idea. The ICANN has toyed with the idea of a .xxx domain since it first approved the idea in 2000, but has yet to implement the domain under protest from both pornographers as well as family and conservative groups.
