Micron Rolls Out Lightning Fast Image Sensor

Boise, Idaho-based Micron Technology has rolled out a lightning fast, 8-megapixel image sensor the company says will provide for ultra-fast image capture and video. The company said that its new, 8-megapixel sensor provides HD video capture resolution and up to 10 pictures a second at full 8-megapixel resolution, and up to 30 pictures a second at 2-megapixel resolution for still cameras. The new technology is packed into a 1.75 micron pixel design, small enough to fit into camera phones and pocket-sized cameras. The new sensor is a step up from Micron's existing, 5-megapixel image sensor. Micron said that the new CMOS image sensor is targeted at camera phones, and will be sampled in 2006, and in mass production by 2007.
