JumpCloud Rolls Out Active Directory Replacement In The Cloud

In a bid to modernize enterprise directory services--used by companies to manage user logins and passwords--Boulder-based JumpCloud has rolled out a new service which uses the cloud for directory management. JumpCloud said this morning that it has rolled out a brand new product, which it calls "Directory-as-a-Service" (DaaS), moving the management of users from such products a Microsoft Active Directory or Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). Both Active Directory and LDAP are heavily use in the enterprise to manage usernames and access rights for employees. JumpCloud--led by Rajat Bhargava--said it is looking to help further transition to the cloud of IT systems, in the spirit of cloud services like SalesForce.com, Gmail, and Dropbox.
