IBM Opens New Boulder Data Center

IBM said Tuesday morning that it has opened a new data center at its Boulder, Colorado site, which it says is its "greenest" data center in North America. IBM said that the firm's new 115,000-square foot site is part of a $350M investment by the firm in the Boulder area. The new data center includes 70,000 square feet of raised floor space, bringing the amount of data center space at IBM Boulder to what the firm says is nearly 300,000 square feet--the firm's largest worldwide. The center started hosting clients in May. IBM said that among the "green" features of the site is partial use of wind-powered electricity, use of high density computing systems using virtualization technology, use of recycled products and materials in the new data center, and energy efficient power/cooling systems.
