Gogo Partners With Inmarsat

Satellite network operator Inmarsat said Tuesday that it has partnered with Gogo, the provider of in-flight Internet services with operations in Broomfield, Colorado, to bring its Global Xpresss satellite service to the commercial airline market. Inmarsat said that it has also tied with Aircell, the business aviation wing of Gogo, to similarly distribute its services to the business and government aviation market. Financial details of the partnership were not announced. Inmarsat said that Gogo will begin in-flight testing of its Global Xpress aeronautical services, after the launch of its Inmarsat-5 satellite, scheduled for mid-2013. The new satellite network uses the Ka-band, which is expected to increase transmission speeds to 50 megabits per second. The two firms are expecting regional service in 2013, and air transport, business aviation, and government service in 2014.
