Glasses.com Lets Users Try On Glasses, Virtually

Online buying of eyeglasses is still a hit-and-miss proposition. Online eyeglass retailers have resorting to shipping multiple pairs of eyeglasses to users, extending generous return policies, and more to deal with the fact that you just can't try on a pair of frames through your computer. However, a Draper, Utah-based company, Glasses.com, is hoping to change that with new, 3D technology which lets users virtually try on new glasses. The company--owned by 1-800-CONTACTS--said its new 3Dfit technology is now shipping as an iPad app, which lets users virtually fit glasses using their tablet. The software uses facial mapping to figure out how a user's face will fit different glasses in 3D. Glasses.com released the iPad application a few days ago, saying that its software is aimed at changing the way people buy glasses.
