Freescale Rolls Out Power Management Chip

Freescale Semiconductor's Tempe-based Wireless and Mobile Systems Group rolled out a new power management IC targeted at small form factor 3G phones, mobile gaming, and portable media players this morning. The company said today its new MC13783 power management and user interface (PMUI) chip reduced component count and board area for high end 3G phones, and is expected to simplify design and decrease prices. The new chip provides a full audio system, battery charger, lighting system, switching and linear power regulators, USB transceivers, touchscreen interface, and more. The new chip provides a high fidelity stereo digital to analog converter (DAC) and headphone drivers, a white LED backlight drivers, and more. The chip is sampling now and will be generally available in February.
