EchoStar, Dish Network Get Setback In Patent Lawsuit

Englewood-based EchoStar and Dish Network have received a setback in a patent lawsuit filed against the two by digital video recorder (DVR) firm TiVo. According to the firms, EchoStar has been ordered to pay $103M plus interest, in addition to an existing $104M award, to TiVo, after the United States District Court, Eastern District of Texas found EchoStar in contempt of court. TiVo sued EchoStar and Dish over patent infringement in 2004. In a statement, Dish and EchoStar said it was "disappointed" in the decision, and will appeal, saying it will file a motion to stay the order.
