DARPA Selects Urban Challenge Participants

DARPA has selected eleven teams as participants for the 2007 Urban Challenge, including a Utah and an Arizona team. The third DARPA Grand Challenge autonomous vehicle competition will focus on teams developing fully autonomous robotic vehicles conducting simulated military supply missions safely and effectively in a mock urban area. DARPA selected the eleven teams as part of its track A system, and will invest up to $1M in each of the teams. Young Ward, Utah-based Autonomous Solutions, a developer of unmanned vehicle systems, was among the firms to be selected. Tucson-based Raytheon also was selected by DARPA to participate as part of the track A competition. DARPA said it received more than 60 proposals from across the U.S. and the world for the challenge.
