Cool Energy Gets $500K SBIR Grant

Boulder, Colorado-based Cool Energy has scored $500,000 in a Phase II, Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant, the firm said this morning, for its solar energy technology. The firm said the grant--which comes from the National Science Foundation--will go toward commercialization of its SolarFlow system, Stirling engine technology which is being used to provide heat and electric power to residences and small buildings. Cool Energy said it technology will allow the firm's engine to generate electricity more economically than other renewable systems. Cool Energy has also received funding from the State of Colorado Governor's Energy Office Clean Energy Fund NEED program. The NSF awards its SBIR grants to companies with promising technology to help in research and commercialization efforts.
