COPAN Bumps Storage Capacity

Longmont, Colorado-based COPAN Systems, a manufacturer of data storage devices and software, has begun using 750-gigabyte hard drives for its products, the company reported Tuesday. COPAN said the new drives will boost the storage capacity of its enhanced MAID arrays by 50 percent, giving them a total of 672 terabytes of data storage in a single cabinet, which translates to a storage density of 67.2 TB per square foot. Since March 2004, COPAN Systems has specialized in producing storage systems based on a massive array of idle disks, which use power-managed disk drives as a replacement for tape backup. The firm's products are used for archiving and backup of corporate data.
