Alliant Techsystems, Rocketplace Kistler In Space Shuttle Replacement Program

Alliant Techsystems, which maintains its launch operations in Brigham City, Utah, and Oklahoma-based Rocketplane Kistler, said Wednesday that ATK will become the lead contractor for Rocketplane Kistler's K-1 launch vehicle. Rocketplane recently was awarded a contract to develop a commercial alternative to the Space Shuttle, as part of an effort by NASA to tap commercial contractors for development of a space vehicle. The K-1 is targeted at providing a reusable space transportation systems for transporting cargo and science payloads to and from the International Space Station. ATK will provide launch vehicle development, assembly, integration, and test of the launch system.
