SimpleGeo Turns To Factual For Location Database

Boulder-based SimpleGeo, the developer of location-based data APIs and data, has turned to another data startup, Factual, to expand its Places API. SimpleGeo, which is headed by Jay Adelson and backed by Redpoint Ventures, First Round Capital, Lowercase Capital, and Foundry Group, is one of the firms from the TechStars acceleration program. According to the two, the link will boost SimpleGeo's API to more than 30 million businesses and other points of interest across 45 countries. SimpleGeo said the move would make it a provider of tools and data for the services, with Factual providing the data around locations. The two had previously competed on providing that location data to developers. Factual's founder sold his last startup, Applied Semantics, to Google.
