Zayo, Level 3 Hit By Fiber Network Cut In Bay Area: FBI Investigating
Boulder-based bandwidth provider Zayo and Broomfield-based Level 3, b oth high speed, fiber network providers based in Colorado, are victims of a deliberate attack on their physical infrastructure on Tuesday. The attack--where an unknown attacker entered an underground vault and cut the fiber optic cables of multiple bandwidth providers--caused major issues with Internet traffic in the San Francisco Bay area. The attacks--which are now under FBI investigation--caused severe disruption in Northern California, across both Zayo and Level 3's network.
