Tendril In Deal With Whirlpool

Boulder-based Tendril, the developer of energy management systems, said Monday that it has inked a deal with appliance manufacturer Whirlpool Corporation, to use its technology in Whirlpool's smart appliances. Financial impact of the deal was not disclosed. Tendril said it will provide back-end technology infrastructure to support the commercial deployment of smart appliances, connecting into Whirlpool's smart appliances. The deal will allow Whirlpool refrigerators to connect with public utility and energy providers to actively manage energy consumption, for example, by moving energy consuming defrost cycles to off-peak hours. Tendril is backed by VantagePoint Venture Partners, Good Energies, RRE Ventures, Vista Ventures, GE and Appian Ventures.
