SCO Group Files Reorg Plan, Looks to Split Operations, Lawsuits

Lindon, Utah-based The SCO Group, the Unix software provider which has been battling the Linux operating system community and such companies as IBM and Novell over source code, said Monday that it has filed a formal Reorganization Plan and plans to conduct a public auction of the firm's last remaining product operations to fund the company. According to SCO, it intends to conduct a public auction to secure additional operating funds and investment in its OpenServer and mobile products. The plan is the firm's second, after a private equity firm withdrew a $100M offer last year to help fund the company. SCO has been in Chapter 11 since September of 2007. SCO said the sale of its businesses will separate its legal efforts from its core product business. The firm said in a statement that it believes there are several investment groups interested in its OpenServer and mobile businesses.
