Footnote.com Opens FBI Files for Free Public Viewing

Footnote.com, an online archive featuring millions of searchable historical documents, reported Wednesday that its entire collection of FBI case files will be available for public viewing at no cost through August. The Lindon, Utah-based firm said the collection includes more than 2 million records dating from 1908-22, including dossiers on high-profile celebrities such as entertainer Charlie Chaplin, baseball legend Babe Ruth and newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hurst. Also included are wartime documents involving espionage and background checks of suspicious persons, as well as investigations of potential Prohibition violations.
