SCO To Pay $2.5M To Novell Lindon, Utah-based SCO Group, the Unix software development firm which is engaged in a running lawsuit against the Linux operating system and supporters, has suffered another blow after a judge rules that it must pay $2.5M Thursday to Novell. Judge Dale Kimball ruled that SCO must pay Novell $2,547,817 plus interest in a lawsuit where SCO had sued Novell for breach of fiduciary duty. Kimball rules that Novell, not SCO, owns rights to the Unix operating system. The payment is a result of licensing the Unix operating system to Sun Microsystems. SCO Group has been engaged in a series of lawsuits against IBM, Novell, and others since 2004 over ownership of source code in the Linux operating system. posted on Friday, July 18, 2008
