Report Finds Utah Tech Industry Grows, Despite Recession
According to a newly published annual report, the Beehive State's technology and life sciences industries have yet to feel the effect of a national recession. The report, which the Utah Technology Council released Tuesday, claims that the state's tech businesses grew 5.5 percent from March 2007 to September 2007. Richard Nelson, the council's president and chief executive officer, said in a statement that Utah's tech growth has been so strong of late that companies are having a difficult time of finding and retaining the executive talent they need. Also noted in the report: 86 percent of the surveyed companies grew their employee base within the past year; 80 percent of the surveyed companies plan on increasing their work staff. The Utah Technology Council is an industry group advocating the technology and life sciences industry in Utah.
