Sarcos Unveils Robotic Snake

Salt Lake City-based robot developer Sarcos said week that it is launching what it says is the first, commercially available snake-like robot. The company said the new, autonomous robot is aimed at use in public safety, security, disaster recovery, infrastructure inspection, aerospace, maritime, oil and gas, and other areas. The company said its Guardian S snake robot can climb stairs, pass through narrow culverts and pipes, and scale vertical surfaces. In an unusual move, the company said it will not be selling the robot outright, but instead, offering it up as a "robot-as-a-service", for $1500 a month.
