Occipital Taps Cloud For Enhanced Images
Boulder-based Occipital, the developer of panoramic photography applications for the iPhone, said this week that it has tapped cloud and GPU-based enhancements for its software. The firm said the new enhancements provides smoother transitions in its photos, and fuller coverage of panoramas. The firm did not detail what cloud-based services it is using, however, said it using GPU servers (graphical processing unit) to generate and improve the panoramas. GPUs are being used by a wide variety of firms to offload computationally intensive algorithms for much faster processing times.
