DigitalGlobe Names Challenge Winners
Westminster, Colorado-based satellite imagery provider DigitalGlobe has named the winners of its SpaceNet Challenge Round 2, its effort to challenge users to use its data to sharpen machine learning algorithms for use in the geospatial imaging market. According to DigitalGlobe, it awarded three winners in the collaboration between the company, CosmiQ Works, and NVIDIA. DigitalGlobe had released large datasets--covering Las Vegas, Shanghai, and Khartoum-- allowing software developers to design algorithms to automate mapping and other tasks using satellite imagery. DigitalGlobe released its dataset in August in hopes of advanging research in technology to automate mapping and image analysis.
