Provo, Utah-based online family history site Ancestry.com is in a major expansion into the newspaper archive business today, saying that it has reached a deal with newspaper publisher Gannett Co., to digitize and offer up the archives of more than 80 daily newspapers across the nation. The two said that Newspapers.com, a business unit of Ancestry, will provide historical newspaper archives, with full text search, clipping, and sharing features--with more than 100 million, full-page images of historical newspapers. Financial details of the deal were not announced. The two said they have initially posted four million pages of The Cincinnati Enquirer, and will soon be rolin gout arhives from Detroit Free Press, The Arizona Republic, The Indianapolis Star, The Tennessean and many others.
