GoDaddy Buys 200,000 Domain Names From Marchex
Scottsdale, Arizona-based domain name and Internet Service Provider GoDaddy has just massively increased its ownership of domain names, as the company said it would pay $34.8M for a portfolio of over 200,000 domain names owned by Marchex. Marchex said the deal was split between will pay $28.1M in cash, the proceeds of $6.7M in direct domain sales made by Marchex since January, and earnout. Marchex is in the midst of re-focusing its business towards mobile advertising analytics, and said the move helps it focus in that new area.
