Sarcos Buys Robotic Exoskeleton Technology From Raytheon
Salt Lake City-based Sarcos LC, a new startup in the robotics area, said this morning that it has acquired the technology behind a robotic exoskeleton, from b>Raytheon. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Sarcos said it is looking to commercialize the robotics, micro systems, medical devices, and sensor technologies developed as part of the XOS-2 exoskeletal robot, which was originally designed for government use. Sarcos said it is exploring use of its exoskeleton in the areas of robotics, micro systems, and sensor technologies for use in the health care, life sciences, telecommunications, robotics, defense, and entertainment industries. The new company is led by Dr. Fraser Smith, who was previously President of Raytheon Sarcos.
