Amkor Loses In Patent Fight, Ordered To Pay $113M
In what looks like a major blow to Chandler, Arizona-based Amkor Technology, the provider of semiconductor packaging and test services has been ordered to pay $113M plus interest in a patent suit involving Tessera Technologies. Amkor said late Friday that the Patent Trial and Appeal Board at the United States Patent and Trademark Office made two rulings, confirming an earlier decision by an arbitration panel, which awarded Tessera royalties of $113 million plus interest relating to patent infringement concerning U.S. Patent No. 6,046,076. Amkor said it believes that the rulings are "in error" and said it plans to pursue all avenues of appeal.
