Amgen To Shut Colorado Facility
In bad news for Longmont, biotechnology giant Amgen said Tuesday afternoon that it will close its facilities in Colorado, as part of a larger, restructuring effort at the company. Amgen said it would shut down both its facilities in Colorado and Washington state, to help streamline its organization, reduce layers of management, and improve its cost structure. The company said it will reduce its staff by between 2,400 and 2,900 workers, starting later this year and continuing through 2015. The cuts equal 12 percent of the company's global workforce.
