Utah Leads Region In Venture Capital In Q1, As Region Sees $369.1M

The State of Utah led the region in terms of venture capital investments in Q1 of 2014, accoridng to the latest MoneyTree Report from PricewaterhouseCoopers, the National Venture Capital Association, and Thomson Reuters. The numbers--released last Friday--found that Utah had $212.6M in investments, spread across eight deals in the quarter--among the largest investments in the state in recent memory. Those numbers were helped enormously by the $125.0M invested in Domo in Q1. The region has a whole saw $369.12M in investments. Colorado had $112.5M across 22 companies; Arizona had $39.3M in investments in 8 companies; and New Mexico had $4.78M in investments in four companies.

Those investments totals for the quarter were double the $180.6M invested in Q1 of 2013 in the region, and also above the $229.4M invested in Q4 of 2013. Nationally, venture capitalists invested $9.5 billion in 951 deals in the first quarter, which was up 12 percent in terms of dollars but down 14 percent in terms of deals compared to fourth quarter of 2013. Those investment levels are the highest since Q2 of 2001.
