Graphicly Makes Giant Shift Away From Comics
Boulder-based Graphicly, the online comic book publishing site headed by Micah Baldwin, made a seismic shift in its strategy last week, shutting down its digital comic book marketplace apps, and instead focusing on publishing tools. The startup pulled its iPad, iPhone, and Android apps, and shut down the core of its prior business--its comic book marketplace--Thursday, saying that instead, it will focus on its new distribution and self-publisher toolset, which it had released in January. The new focus is on the firm's Digital Distribution Platform, which allows all content creators and publishers--not just comic books--to publish their content to tablets, smart phones, and other platforms. Graphicly said that although the tools still support comic books, the tool is aimed at use in everything form children's books, to art books, to magazine, to school textbooks, among other things.
