MapQuest Launches Mobile APIs
Denver-based MapQuest, the online mapping site owned by AOL, is looking to attract mobile developers to its mapping platform, via a set of new APIs it released this morning. MapQuest said it has released APIs for both Android and Apple iOS, which it hopes mobile developers will find a "great alternative" to other native mobile mapping APIs. MapQuest is hoping that developers will turn to its service for pulling up maps and routes on their applications. To that end, the firm said it is offering "drop in" replacement for current native mapping APIs to its own service, and added such features as integrated driving direction and access to OpenStreetMap data.
