Arizona Air Force Base Set To Install Solar Power System
Luke Air Force Base, in Glendale, Arizona, is slated to install what the supplier says will be the largest solar power installation at a U.S. government facility. According to photovoltaic systems provider SunPower, it has inked a deal with Arizona Public Service (APS) to design and construct a 15 megawatt (AC) solar photovoltaic power system at the base. The system is expected to cover around 50 percent of the base's annual energy requirements. The firms said the systems will be owned by APS, which will sell the electricity to Luke Air Force Base under a long term agreement. The system will generate the energy equivalent as 3,750 Arizona homes, and create 550 local jobs.
