SMA Solar Expands In Denver, To Employ 700
German solar inverter manufacturer SMA Solar said this week that it is opening up a new, production facility in Denver, as part of an expansion here in the United States. The firm, whose equipment is used for photovoltaic power installations, said the new site will be its largest U.S. production facility. SMA said it expects to product around one gigawatt a year of inventers in the new facility, which will produce its Sunny Boy, Sunny Central, and Sunny Island product lines for the North American Market. The firm is working with real estate developer Etkin Johnson Group and Forest City Enterprises, along with the State of Colorado and the City of Denver on the new site. SMA said it expects to invest 15 million Euros--around $23M US--and employ a staff of 700 in Denver in the near future, with production starting in mid-2010.
