    COPAN Systems Adds VTL, Deduplication

Longmont, Colorado-based COPAN Systems, which develops storage products for the data archiving and backup market, said today that it has added a new virtual tape library (VTL) product with deduplication features. The new 100T Remote Office VTL provides backup for remote offices. VTL products look like a standard tape library to software, but actually provide disk-based backup instead of tape. COPAN said that its new VTL product is targeted at backing up the corporate data for geographically dispered remote offices. The product connects to COPAN's MAID products in a central data center. COPAN said its new 100T product supports capacities of 38TB, 120TB, and 240TB. COPAN is venture backed by Austin Ventures, Globespan Capital, Pequot Ventures, Credit Suisse and Battery Ventures.
